Warp threads around the wooden shuttle
Published · Updated
Cream warp threads lift around a wooden shuttle carrying a spool of indigo yarn. The shuttle rests between two separated layers, its smooth pointed end aimed across the loom. A loose blue strand leads away from the bobbin toward the lower edge of the frame. Behind it, rows of narrow metal heddles hang from substantial wooden frames.
The growing cloth occupies the foreground. Dark denim strips, close blue weaving and raised cream wool ridges produce a surface that is much less regular than the taut threads above. Frayed edges and small tufts remain visible, with the texture gradually softening as it approaches the camera. A pale border wraps around the cloth beam at the side.
Window light enters from the upper left, revealing scratches in the shuttle and changes in the loom's honey-colored wood. The low viewpoint places the viewer close to the narrow working gap. It connects the simple passage of one yarn-filled tool with the dense, varied textile taking shape below it.
