A waterwheel turns beside the old mill
Published · Updated
A waterwheel turns beside an old mill, receiving a steady stream from a timber chute above. Broad wooden paddles carry the water around the rim before it spills into the channel below. Dark spokes, an iron hub and a grounded bearing make the working structure easy to follow.
Wet grain and patches of moss give the wheel a textured surface against pale plaster and dark wall beams. Red climbing leaves, plain windows and a fern-covered bank add depth around the narrow millrace. Cool light after rain keeps the stone and water clear, while small splashes and softer falling streams show the movement within the otherwise quiet setting.
