Wicker Toboggan Turns down the Walled Lane
Published · Updated
A wicker toboggan carries two men down a steep coastal lane. The younger passenger turns toward his companion with an open smile, and the older man looks back from his deep woven seat. A blue striped shirt, rust linen and pale trousers stand out against the warm brown basket. Both riders sit low with their feet contained behind its curved front.
Two guides in white clothing and straw hats stand behind the passengers. Their hands hold the ropes at either side, while long wooden runners lie against the paved road. The near surface blurs into diagonal streaks, adding movement without hiding the woven structure or the men's expressions. Sunlight catches the straw brims, shirt folds and rough wicker strands.
Banana leaves reach over the high wall on the left. Pale plaster, dark gates and red roof tiles line the narrow descent, opening to a broad view of densely gathered hillside buildings. Beyond them, the sea forms a calm blue band beneath a hazy headland. The unusual shared ride remains the center of a much larger coastal setting.
