A Dress Woven from Metal and Leaves
Published · Updated
Fine metallic mesh forms an empty dress in a quiet gallery. The sleeveless bodice and softly flared skirt hold their shape around a narrow support, with no figure inside. Copper stems wind across the open weave, carrying small pointed leaves and three large flowers. Their curved petals catch warm highlights, while the gauze stays delicate enough for the room behind it to remain visible through the sculpture.
A tall window brings cool daylight across the old wooden floor. Autumn branches fill the view outside, and a vase of dried stems echoes the metal foliage beside the dress. Light passing through the mesh throws a detailed branching shadow onto the pale wall. The sculpture rises from a plain dark stone plinth, which gives the fine work a solid base without obscuring its outline. Small folds and uneven wire edges keep the surface tactile rather than smooth. The photograph brings together the familiar shape of a dress, the structure of botanical drawing and the surprising transparency of carefully worked metal.
