A Silver Crumple Casts a Room of Light
Published · Updated
A compact crumpled metal form rests on the floor of a dark gallery. Its sharply folded surfaces catch a concentrated light, sending bright fragments outward across the room. Long pale ribbons stretch over the floor, climb the walls and break around the corner. The small sculpture becomes the centre of a much larger drawing made from reflected light.
Each fold has its own bright edge and dark interior. The metal remains solid and grounded, while the reflected patterns vary in intensity as they travel across rough plaster and smooth concrete. Some streaks are narrow and distinct; others spread into soft branching patches. Faint ceiling beams and the room edges keep the surrounding space legible.
The low viewpoint shows the relationship between the object and its reflections without adding other artwork or people. A broad dark area in the foreground gives the brighter patterns room to breathe. This photograph is free to use, including for commercial projects.
