A felt flower garden fills the brick hall
Published · Updated
A felt flower garden makes the children seem small beside familiar plant shapes. The girl peeks around the edge of an enormous leaf while the boy crouches near its arched opening. They find one another with bright, natural smiles. Her checked dress and his patterned knit vest add smaller fabric details to a setting already rich in woolly texture.
The leaf tunnel has a broad raised central vein and thick padded edges. Around it, curled stems support heavy bell-shaped flowers, while layered petals make low resting places on the floor. Saffron, plum, moss green and muted teal repeat throughout the installation. Visible seams and soft irregular fibers keep the oversized garden convincingly handmade.
Tall windows and arches rise above the play area inside the brick hall. Warm globe lamps hang at different heights, balancing the cool daylight from outside. A large petal fills the near foreground and leads the eye toward the children, then onward through the garden. The whole scene holds the pleasure of a small hiding game inside an unusually generous, tactile space.
