A Home between Two Wooden Hulls
Published · Updated
Two timber boat hulls form the foundation of a small floating home. Their raised bows face the riverbank, with an open strip of water between them. A dining cabin occupies the nearer hull, while a second cabin holds a quiet bedroom. Across the back, a glazed sitting room joins the two sides above the water, with a deep blue sofa visible through the glass. The separate rooms create a low, stepped outline instead of one large box on a platform.
Weathered planks, dark seams and a narrow indigo stripe give the nearest hull a sense of use. Timber rails follow the decks, mooring ropes secure the structure beside the bank, and an exterior stair reaches a small roof terrace with two chairs. Inside, modest lamps light individual corners as cloudy autumn daylight falls across the roofs and bows. The water beneath the connecting room remains dark, with broken reflections extending outward. Reeds, fallen leaves and yellowing trees place the home within the river landscape, while the twin hulls make its unusual arrangement immediately clear.
