A humpback whale breaches the dark water
Published · Updated
A humpback whale rises at an angle above the dark ocean, with water streaming from its ridged underside. The long flipper and knobby muzzle remain visible through the spray, while a white splash marks the point where the body leaves the surface. The wide view gives the movement room around it.
Restless foreground swells lead toward the animal and a low island on the horizon. A narrow opening in the storm clouds lets warm evening light catch the falling water against the darker sky. That contrast gives the brief breach a strong outline while the broad sea preserves the scale of the wildlife encounter.
