A Painted Wagon Opens into a Garden Room
Published · Updated
Blue and claret doors open around a compact sitting room filled with hand-painted flowers. Fine gold stems and colored petals travel across the cupboard fronts, door panels and curved roof frame, tying the small space together. Burgundy cushions sit above fitted drawers on either side of a plain wooden table. Pale blue curtains frame the arched rear window, where the orchard appears again beyond the room.
A broad wooden platform extends outward from the wagon, supported by visible metal fittings and braces. Worn steps, dark spoked wheels and the iron underframe make the structure easy to read. Nearby, faded hydrangeas, pale daisies and fallen leaves soften its place in the garden, while red apples hang above the open doorway. Daylight catches the painted exterior and leaves the upper roof in quiet shade, revealing old timber grain and small chips along the edges. This original imagined garden retreat brings practical storage and a comfortable place to sit into a richly decorated little enclosure.
