A round dovecote stands in the autumn orchard
Published · Updated
A round dovecote stands among the apple trees in a sunlit autumn orchard. Honey-gray stone blocks form the curved wall, strengthened by shallow tapering buttresses beside a dark doorway. Red-brown roof tiles cover the broad cone beneath a small timber lantern with open louvers.
Climbing ivy spreads across part of the masonry in red and copper leaves, leaving the weathered stone clearly visible. More leaves scatter over the grass around the building, with a low orchard wall and distant trees beyond. Warm afternoon light follows the curved surface and picks out the edges of the clay tiles. The wide view includes the whole grounded structure and the quiet seasonal landscape around it.
