A wave organ listens to the tide

Published · Updated

A wave organ follows the curve of a rocky shoreline. Bronze listening pipes rise from solid blocks beside a curved bench, their dark openings facing into the small seating area. Lower pipes extend toward the water between the masonry and the rocks, giving the unusual installation a visible connection to the tide.

Pale granite and warmer stone blocks form shallow terraces above the sea. The wet stone catches faint evening light, while a small wash of white foam traces the rocks below. The empty setting lets the pipe shapes and careful arrangement of the seating stand out. A distant headland and a narrow warm band at the horizon add depth to the blue coastal scene without competing with its quiet, practical architecture.
