A woven lookout catches the coastal sunset

Published · Updated

The woven lookout curves around a broad view of the coastal sunset. Thick bamboo ribs rise from the edge of the timber platform and sweep overhead, forming a large rounded opening toward the sea. Narrower strips are woven between them, leaving small gaps through which the evening light can pass. Visible bolts and dark metal brackets connect the main members to their supports near the ground.

A continuous railing follows the platform’s outer edge. Its lower lattice repeats the texture of the roof while preserving an open view of the coastline. Sunlight enters from one side and draws an intricate pattern of shadows across the floorboards. The warm honey color of the bamboo contrasts with the cooler blue water beyond.

Dune grasses grow close to the base of the structure, and the shore stretches away toward a low headland. Repeated white surf lines trace the curve of the beach beneath a sky of scattered gold clouds. The empty platform lets the architecture and landscape share the frame. Curved construction, woven texture and changing light create a sheltered place that remains closely connected to the surrounding coast.
