An Aerial Chandelier in the Empty Theatre
Published · Updated
An aerial chandelier hangs above a rehearsal stage, its lowest ring supporting a performer in an embroidered teal costume. She holds the two side supports with separate hands, one knee lifted and the other leg extended beneath her. Chains rise from the upper ring toward the overhead rig, while candle-shaped lights and looped beads soften the apparatus's steel structure.
Rows of red seats fill the lower part of the view, leading toward a broad safety mat beneath the performer. A technician watches from the side of the stage, small against the tall golden curtains and carved balconies. One bright spotlight cuts through the haze. The wide composition makes the theatre itself part of the performance, even before an audience arrives.
