An artichoke bud holds its purple layers
Published · Updated
An artichoke bud holds its purple layers above the leafy garden bed. Broad green and purple bracts overlap around the closed center, each ending in a small pale point. The pointed tips catch soft light while the stout ridged stem remains clearly connected to the plant below.
Two smaller buds rise behind at different heights among deeply lobed silver-green leaves. Fine hairs and veins give the foliage a rougher texture beside the smoother layered bud. A plain wooden fence and softly blurred garden flowers fill the distance, keeping the close botanical form within an ordinary growing border. Cool morning light separates the overlapping shapes without flattening their thick, sculptural surfaces.
