Autumn hayride follows the copper woodland lane
Published · Updated
Autumn hayride passengers share a small discovery beneath a broad copper canopy. A girl holds up a red maple leaf toward her father, who turns from the reins with a smile. Her brother sits beside them with a pumpkin in his lap, leaning into their exchange. The children are warmly dressed in a corduroy pinafore and dark knit top, with boots resting near the straw-covered wagon floor. A chestnut horse follows the lane ahead, while a red barn and split-rail fences fill the background.
The horse drawn wagon has weathered wooden sides, large spoked wheels and plaid blankets over its straw seats. Pumpkins and dried corn stalks are tied along the outside rail, adding decoration without hiding its construction. This family leaf discovery remains the center of attention, but the surrounding farm is equally readable. The reins, harness and shafts connect the people to the slow movement of the horse. Fallen leaves spread across the lane and repeat the reds and browns overhead, giving the photograph a continuous autumn palette from foreground to hillside.
