Cloud Tank Photography in Crimson and Cream
Published · Updated
Cloud tank photography turns crimson pigment and a smaller cream plume into a changing structure within clear water. Dense curls open into thinner veils and threads, with different parts catching the light at different depths. The visible glass edges and waterline keep the effect attached to a physical vessel rather than an open sky. A dark background allows the fine boundaries of the material to remain legible.
The three-quarter view introduces a little refraction along the side without hiding the main plume. A small plain vial and the workbench establish the scale of the setup. The photograph gives an ordinary fluid process the space of a sculptural subject, finding variety in folds, branching tendrils and the contrast between opaque color and transparent surroundings.
