Clouds Held in Glass Discs

Published · Updated

Clear glass circles hang in long rows beside the windows of an airy conservatory. Small brass links join the discs, and a rail near the roof carries their weight. Each circle holds a soft white patch near its lower edge, like a little cloud set against the garden beyond. Green-tinted glass edges catch the sunlight while the transparent centres reveal fragments of copper leaves and blue sky.

The screen runs diagonally through the room, allowing one row to overlap another without closing off the view. Cream columns and delicate iron brackets support the glazed roof above it. Lemon trees stand in worn terracotta pots beside the windows, and a dark wooden bench follows the tiled walkway. Morning light makes circles and fine branching shadows across the warm floor, where small surface marks keep the setting tactile. The photograph brings the fragile glasswork and the generous garden room together in a calm, bright composition.
