The Prismatic Walnut Reception Room

Published · Updated

Concentric rings of round glass lenses form an extraordinary shallow dome above this circular reception room. Their pale rims repeat toward a clear central opening, bringing fragments of blue sky and leafy branches into the ceiling. Broad walnut panels wrap the room below, their horizontal grain giving warmth to the generous curved space. Open doorways and a large garden window connect the seating area to quieter rooms and a green hillside beyond.

Rounded ivory sofas and armchairs gather around low circular tables, with dusty rose cushions and fine lines in the pale rug adding a restrained colour accent. A vase of fresh branches stands at the centre, catching the spring light. Sunlight filters across the upholstery and wood in soft broken patches, making the room feel bright without losing its warmth. The photograph follows the relationship between the precise glass canopy and the comfortable furniture below. Natural grain, textured cloth and gently curved forms bring an inviting scale to the remarkable roof.
