Large tilted cobalt blue glass ring made of faceted panes in a limestone courtyard with birch trees and an open arch

The Cobalt Ring in the Courtyard

Published · Updated

A monumental cobalt ring leans into the light at the centre of a quiet limestone courtyard. Angular glass panes build its thick rounded form, held together by narrow dark ribs. Some facets appear almost black, while others shine sapphire blue or reflect the sky and branches behind the camera. The opening through the middle frames the pale wall, giving the sculpture a strong hollow silhouette rather than the weight of a solid block.

A low metal footing anchors the ring to the paving. Sunlight passing through the glass leaves a broken blue patch among the long shadows, and a shallow puddle catches a smaller reflection nearby. Birch trees stand along the courtyard edge, their fine branches and yellowing leaves contrasting with the precise glazed geometry. Through a broad stone arch, distant wooded hills add depth and an ordinary measure of scale.
