Tall timber house wrapped in flowing rust-colored steel ribbons beside a canal, with square windows and a glazed stair bay

The House with the Corten Ribbons

Published · Updated

Broad ribbons of weathered steel curve up the front of a narrow timber house. Their rust-colored surfaces shift from orange and sienna to dark brown, while slim parallel ribs trace the same sweeping paths. Square windows sit between the curves, and a tall glazed stair bay rises beside the entrance. The warm timber boards remain visible across much of the facade, making a clear contrast between straight grain and flowing metal.

Small brick houses frame the unusual building on both sides. Below, a stone quay and dark railing follow the canal, where the facade breaks into soft vertical reflections. Fallen leaves gather along the damp paving and float near the water's edge. Morning light touches the upper steelwork, while the glass carries cool reflections of sky and autumn branches. The complete roofline and entry keep the sculptural facade grounded in a believable home.
