The Dining Room of Glass Bottles

Published · Updated

Tall arched shelves fill both sides of the dining room with clear, amber and olive-green bottles. Their varied shapes repeat from the timber panelling to the high ceiling, creating a rich glass pattern within the pale plaster. Every shelf catches small reflections from the lamps below, while the bottles remain simple and unlabelled.

A trellis of leafy stems crosses the room overhead. Hanging clusters of purple flowers soften the dark supports, with a few bare bulbs glowing between them. Beneath this canopy, old timber tables are set with ivory plates, clear drinking glasses and folded linen. Bentwood chairs follow the long central aisle toward the far windows.

Outside the tall arched doors, rain darkens a small courtyard scattered with autumn leaves. Its cool light balances the warm shaded table lamps and reveals the uneven texture of the terracotta floor. The nearest tabletop brings worn grain, crockery and a small vase into close view. With no diners present, the photograph gives the repeating bottle arches and hanging garden room to define the entire interior.
