Earthship greenhouse gathers the desert light
Published · Updated
The earthship greenhouse gathers bright desert light beneath a sloping glass roof. Thick timber trusses cross overhead, their bolts and braces visible against the blue sky. Adobe planting beds curve along a clear terracotta walkway, bringing broad leaves and small white flowers into the sheltered space. An open arched doorway frames a second view of the dry landscape.
Green, blue and amber bottle ends punctuate the warm plaster walls. Some catch direct light, while others remain dark circles set deep within the surface. Their irregular arrangement contrasts with the straight glazing bars and heavy beams. Low leafy plants fill the nearest beds, and larger banana leaves lift toward the windows without closing the route through the corridor.
Outside, pale cliffs and scattered scrub stretch across the horizon. Inside, sunlight draws long structural shadows over the stone-edged beds and uneven floor tiles. The repeated frames create depth, leading from the near growing area toward the far doorway. Rough plaster, smooth glass and fresh foliage make the room feel both substantial and full of life, with the desert remaining visible around its edges.
