Weathered cedar boards rise around a small group of Halloween guests, their pale grain crossed by bands of rusted iron. The view looks down from the open rim of a wooden tank, past the curved walls to a damp floor scattered with leaves. A fallen ladder rests to one side, and a carved pumpkin sits near the puddles. The enclosed space gives the photograph a strong circular rhythm.

At the centre, a man dressed as a pilot is supported on a lamplighter’s shoulders. His leather helmet, goggles and sheepskin jacket stand out against the grey timber as he reaches toward the opening. A striped cat burglar, a woman in a silver fringed dress and a man in a dark buttoned suit gather close to steady the effort. Pale daylight catches the wet boards and the costumes without losing their texture. The playful scene combines an unusual rooftop setting with the small suspense of an outstretched hand, surrounded by the tank’s tall, weathered walls.
