Flood chamber beneath a concrete ceiling
Published · Updated
A flood chamber stretches beyond a row of immense concrete columns, with shallow water reflecting their bases and the lights overhead. The low viewpoint makes each support feel tall while revealing the heavy slab ceiling they carry. A small illuminated doorway and a maintenance stair provide familiar measures of the space.
Cool gray surfaces, dark damp lines and visible formwork texture give the chamber its restrained character. Floor reflections repeat the columns without hiding the roughness of the water's edge. One warmer lamp beside the stair interrupts the cooler ceiling lights. The empty room turns practical infrastructure into a study of scale, repetition and the quiet left between large structural forms.
