Five tall glass panels with blue and gold stripes stand on metal tracks and cast coloured light across a pale stone gallery floor.

The Gallery of Sliding Spectrum Glass

Published · Updated

Five tall glass panels stand at intervals along metal tracks in a quiet gallery. Their transparent surfaces carry vertical bands of blue, turquoise, gold and rose, which overlap into changing blocks of colour. Each panel has a thick green edge and a pair of solid metal clamps at its base. The nearest sheet rises almost to the ceiling, while the others recede toward the large window at the end of the room.

Sunlight passes through the coloured bands and spreads across the pale stone floor. Some patches remain clear and bright; others soften where several layers of glass cross the light. Small surface variations catch reflections of the room and make the material feel heavy and tangible. Warm plaster walls and tall wooden doors surround the installation, with a single dark bench placed to one side. Outside, slender autumn trees stand beyond rain-washed paving. The low diagonal view follows the tracks through the gallery and lets the changing transparency become the main event, from the nearest blue edge to the last pale panel.
