Giant water lilies reveal their hidden ribs
Published · Updated
Giant water lilies spread across the upper surface of a clear pond while the view below reveals their hidden structure. Yellow-green ribs radiate from the nearest pad’s center, joined by smaller cross-ribs and a thick descending stalk. The broad floating leaves have raised reddish rims above the waterline.
A pale flower opens between the pads near a soft fern bank. Beneath it, fine suspended particles and shifting sunlight give the water depth without hiding the leaf lattice. The divided viewpoint connects the familiar green surface with the less familiar underside, showing one planted pond as two closely linked spaces with different textures and light.
