Halloween balloons turn the empty roller rink into a room full of curious looks. White balloon eyes appear within the purple, orange, lime and black arches, while others hang from thin threads above the floor. Green fringe fills the entrance alcove beside a curved bench, with pumpkins tucked underneath.

An enormous oval mirrored light sits below the timber roof, catching the warm bulbs strung across the hall. Blue evening windows reveal the tall brick arches, and reflections stretch along the polished skating floor. The decorations gather around the perimeter so the middle of the rink remains open, creating the feeling of a party prepared and waiting for its first arrivals.
