Four children shelter on the porch of a yellow house during an evening downpour. Their Halloween costumes include a green fairy dress with gauzy wings, a cardboard robot, a black cat and a pirate outfit with a broad hat. They laugh together near the open doorway while a woman in a navy dress holds out a towel and a bowl of wrapped sweets. Raindrops cling to their hair and costumes.

Warm light from the doorway falls across the wet wooden boards and catches the folds of the towel. Carved pumpkins glow along the edge of the porch, with scattered leaves around their bases. Beyond the roof, falling rain stands out against the dark street and a few distant windows. The scene brings the small details of a rainy Halloween outing together: improvised costumes, a sheltered welcome and a cheerful pause at the front door.
