Ghost Lanterns Along the Southern Veranda
Published · Updated
White cheesecloth ghosts hang from both levels of a Southern veranda as evening turns the yard deep blue. Warm light shines through their loose fabric, with each lantern standing out against the shaded porch. White columns and black shutters give the house a strong pattern behind the floating shapes.
Rocking chairs sit along the veranda with tartan blankets draped over them. Carved pumpkins gather on the steps, while ferns rise from urns near the porch. The low view from the front walk brings the weathered brick and trailing cloth hems into the scene.
Spanish moss hangs from the live oak beside the house. Its dark foliage frames the pale building and the warm lanterns, leaving pockets of shadow across the garden. The empty chairs, folded blankets and small pools of light give the decorated veranda a quiet, welcoming atmosphere.
