Ice Carving Reveals a Lionfish at Dusk
Published · Updated
Ice carving gives a solid block the spreading fins of a lionfish. The sculptor works from one side with a hand chisel and mallet, leaving the translucent form visible rather than standing in front of it. Fine chips catch the light around the work surface, while the rough base still shows how much material remains.
Some fin edges are more finished than others, making the process part of the scene. Amber light passes through the ice against a cool evening yard, and a rust jacket adds a warm solid texture beside the transparent sculpture. The wide view includes tools, protective glasses and grounded working posture. It catches an elaborate object during its making, when careful small gestures are gradually revealing the larger design.
