An ice fish sculpture catches the winter light
Published · Updated
An ice fish sculpture rises in a broad curve above the harbor deck. Sweeping fins and carved ice scales give the translucent body a strong sense of movement, even while it remains fixed to its solid base. Clear sections catch the pale light differently from the frosted grooves, revealing bubbles and layers inside the frozen material. A nearby ice sculptor works carefully at the lower fin.
The bright orange jacket provides a warm point of color against blue ice and winter air. Small chips gather around the base, and dark timber remains visible beneath them. Boats and low sheds place the activity at a winter harbor, with the wide view showing the sculpture's scale beside its maker.
