Kangaroo paw flowers rise above the sandy garden
Published · Updated
Kangaroo paw flowers rise above the sandy garden in loose uneven groups. Velvety red stems divide into slender branches carrying curved green tubes, some open at the tips and others still closed. Long leaves spread from grounded clumps beneath the tall flower stalks.
Fine hairs catch the morning sunlight along the red branches and the green floral surfaces. Pale gravel, dark stones and low grasses fill the spaces between the plants, with more flowering clumps continuing toward the scrub behind. The low view keeps the nearest blooms clear against the blue sky while showing where their leaves meet the soil. Natural variations in height and angle give the planting a lively rhythm.
