Large wall sculpture of overlapping silver steel rectangles above a walnut bench in a quiet hall with a long skylight

Layered Steel in the Skylit Hall

Published · Updated

Overlapping steel rectangles spread across the tall wall of a quiet modern hall. Each plate sits at a slightly different depth, creating narrow shadows that make the flat shapes feel surprisingly substantial. Vertical pieces rise above long horizontal ones, and the whole arrangement steps outward in an irregular rhythm. Fine marks and soft changes of tone keep the silver surfaces from becoming a uniform mirror. The metal holds broad reflections of the room rather than crisp duplicate objects.

A long skylight runs parallel to the sculpture, washing it with clear daylight. Near the far doorway, warmer sunlight brushes the plaster and catches a few plate edges. Beneath the work, a simple walnut bench supplies a familiar scale and a dark horizontal line. The honed stone floor reflects just enough light to reveal its joints and pale veins. With no visitors or other artwork competing for attention, the layered construction becomes the focus of the space.
