Leafcutter ants carry their green cargo
Published · Updated
Leafcutter ants carry green fragments along a mossy twig, with the nearest insect shown clearly in side profile. Dark mandibles grip the edge of a broad leaf held forward from its face. The reddish body has distinct segments, fine antennae and jointed legs that hold the rough surface below.
Warm backlight reveals branching veins through the translucent leaf and catches its irregular clipped margin. Two smaller ants continue farther along the twig in softer focus, with their own green pieces held ahead. Moss sprigs and blurred fern shapes give the procession a living forest setting, while deep shadows keep the bright cargo easy to see.
