A leather saddle takes shape in the yard

Published · Updated

A leather saddle is taking shape on a sturdy stand in a stone yard. The craftsman holds a curved panel against the saddle tree, checking how its edge follows the structure beneath. Pale tan leather contrasts with the darker horn and older straps. Small holes along the panel make the next stage of assembly visible, while both hands keep the flexible piece controlled.

Morning light enters the stable courtyard and picks out curls, shirt checks and dust on the indigo apron. A nearby bench carries offcuts, paper patterns and wooden-handled tools. More straps hang neatly from hooks in the stone wall. Through the rounded arch, a gate opens toward green fields. The broad view links a careful fitting task with the practical place around it, showing material, tools and maker together.
