Magnetic fishing in the spiral water garden

Published · Updated

Magnetic fishing brings a small moment of triumph to the spiral water garden. The boy holds a short wooden rod in both hands as a red toy fish hangs above the waiting blue bowl. His father kneels beside him and steadies the bowl on the tiled ledge. Both faces turn toward the catch, sharing the same pleased concentration.

Painted toy fish float in the turquoise trough with a few small yellow ducks. Round metal pieces on the fish make the simple game visible, while the shallow water catches moving patches of sunlight. The trough winds inward behind the pair, leaving a broad dry route between its curves. Glazed tile edges and pale grout lines follow every bend.

Cream linen sails stretch between substantial wooden posts above the courtyard. Behind them, tall potted leaves soften an old brick wall and a dark arched doorway. The boy’s mustard sweatshirt and red boots add warm color beside his father’s navy stripes. Water, ceramic, cloth and skin share the gentle afternoon light, giving the elaborate garden an easy everyday atmosphere.
