Mancala stones cross the sunlit courtyard
Published · Updated
Mancala draws two friends toward a small wooden board in a sunlit courtyard. The blonde player cups several glass stones in one hand while lowering another toward a shallow well. Her companion leans forward with her cheek resting in her palm. Both smile toward the table, absorbed in the same small decision.
The player wears a blue linen dress with colorful floral embroidery along its neckline, cuffs and waist. Her friend wears a plain orange dress and brown sandals. Their woven chairs and the round stone table create a low, comfortable place to pause. Clear, blue and amber pieces catch the sunlight inside the smooth wooden board.
A turquoise courtyard fountain stands directly behind them, its short central jet breaking into white droplets. Yellow citrus fruit hangs overhead among dense green leaves. Across the courtyard, an arched dark lattice door interrupts an ivory wall beside a large weathered pot. Irregular paving carries patches of sunlight and shadow beneath the table. The scene brings a quiet game into a richly textured outdoor room, with the surrounding architecture supporting the shared moment.
