Nectar bat hovers with raised wings and a narrow tongue at agave flowers above a desert garden at blue dusk.

Nectar bat reaches the agave flowers

Published · Updated

A nectar bat reaches toward agave flowers at blue dusk, its narrow tongue extending into an open bloom. Two raised wings form a broad shape above the small furred body. Fine supporting bones and translucent membranes are visible against the evening sky, while the tucked feet remain close behind the body.

The flowering stalk rises along the right side of the photograph. Pale yellow petals open from clusters of green buds, repeating at several heights and giving the approaching animal a clear destination. Light catches the bat and nearest flowers without losing the cooler atmosphere behind them. The contact between tongue and blossom makes the brief feeding moment easy to follow.

Lower in the frame, pointed agave rosettes, dry grasses and distant hills establish the wider desert setting. A narrow warm band near the horizon softens the deep blue sky. The picture suits wildlife stories, desert gardens or a collection about the activity that begins as daylight fades. Its small subject holds a large, quiet landscape together through one precise movement.
