Pasta Curtains Fill the Drying Loft
Published · Updated
Fine golden strands fill this tall workshop from the lowered rack beside the bench to the frames suspended near the roof. Each curtain belongs to a practical drying system, with rods, ropes and substantial timber joints visible between the pasta. The open aisle allows the whole room to remain understandable despite the density of hanging strands.
At the nearest frame, a maker guides a loaded rod into place. His attention stays on the supports, and the small movement explains how the larger arrangement works. Empty rods, flour marks and simple storage beneath the bench give the room the accumulated detail of a place used every day. The high frames leave working space below them while the lower one can be reached comfortably.
Side windows bring cool daylight through the long strands, separating bright edges from the shaded layers behind. The pasta supplies its own warm color against old stone, dark beams and worn wood. A little gallery at the far end connects the upper part of the room. The result is an imagined interior whose unusual beauty comes directly from the work carried out within it.
