Plaster Ceiling Rosette with a Carved Petal
Published · Updated
A plaster ceiling rosette lies across a dark workbench as a small chisel clears the edge of one curved petal. One hand steadies the circular rim while the other guides the blade through the pale material. Concentric mouldings and a narrow leaf border surround the central opening, giving the ornament several distinct layers of relief.
Raking light draws fine shadows into each groove and reveals the chalky surface left by the tool. Curled shavings gather beside a broad brush, and small crumbs scatter over the felt below. The close framing keeps attention on the pressure of the hands, the shape of the blade and the patient finishing of an architectural detail.
