Pumpkin Sweep Rounds the Last Paper Poppy
Published · Updated
A pumpkin sweep follows a curved chalk lane through a village square dressed for autumn. The boy bends into his turn, holding the broom with both hands as its straw head meets the small pumpkin. His sister waits beyond the obstacle with another broom and points toward the clear route. Their father calls encouragement from a hay seat beside the course.
Large paper poppies turn ordinary cones and timber arches into an exuberant festival setting. Peach petals spread around pale fringed centers, with deep plum flowers tucked between them. The boy wears a simple bat costume that leaves his face clear, while his sister brings a smaller floral pattern to the scene. Other costumed children stand along the edge, watching the Halloween relay unfold.
White village buildings, outdoor tables and strings of warm bulbs continue into the distance. Autumn hills rise above the rooftops, linking the decorated square with the season beyond it. Chalk curves lead back toward the waiting crowd, and the irregular paving adds a small extra challenge to the careful sweeping action.
