Puya spikes tower above the rocky grassland
Published · Updated
Puya spikes tower above a dry rocky slope in the clear highland light. Large pointed leaf rosettes spread around their bases, with gray-green blades above skirts of older brown leaves. Dark textured stalks rise straight from the centers and narrow toward their high tips.
Three larger plants stand at different distances, while several smaller forms continue across the grassland behind. Golden tussocks fill the spaces between pale and dark rocks, and distant mountains sit low beneath the deep blue sky. The low wide view gives the near plant a strong vertical presence while leaving room for the surrounding slope. Crisp side light reveals the repeated small structures along the mature spikes without suggesting fresh white blossoms.
