The Morning After Halloween
Published · Updated
Carved pumpkins sit quietly along the steps and railing of a white clapboard porch. Their dark mouths and softened skins show the traces of a long Halloween evening, while a thin wisp of smoke rises beside the largest lantern. Beyond the white railing, the street and neighbouring houses fade into early morning mist.
A pumpkin bucket has tipped onto the path, scattering wrapped sweets among damp leaves. A black cat-ear headband rests on the doormat near an orange paper streamer, and a paper bat hangs against the rail. Pale golden light touches the wet ground while the blue front door remains shaded, giving the abandoned decorations a gentle, nostalgic stillness.
