The Raffia Loop Garden Room

Published · Updated

Broad loops of pale raffia hang from a timber beam beside the tall windows of a garden room. Their crocheted bands overlap and descend at different lengths, leaving generous openings through the screen. Frayed fibers and uneven knots give the hanging a dry, handmade texture. Thin supports rise to the beam, while the lowest strands stop above a long rough stone sill.

Afternoon sun passes through the open work and places a second pattern of loops across the plaster wall. The warm light catches loose fibers along the edges without hiding the details in shadow. Beyond the hanging, ferns and autumn trees fill the garden view. An open glass door connects the room to the planting outside. A dark wooden settle with two pale cushions sits to one side, and square terracotta tiles continue beneath a simple woven rug. The quiet furnishings keep attention on the scale and texture of the screen.
