A Curtain of Small Discoveries
Published · Updated
A weathered branch carries a curtain of small discoveries across a tall timber room. Linen cords descend in uneven lines, each one tied around keys, rings, beads and smooth pieces of glass. Amber drops catch the sunlight, while pale blue and white objects remain softly translucent. Dark metal and wooden pieces add weight between them. The little knots and frayed ends make the construction visible, with loose strands gathering where they reach the floorboards.
The open screen allows the limewashed wall and roof beams to show through its many gaps. Afternoon light from a broad window picks out each strand and casts tiny broken shadows across the room. Beyond the glass, a river reflects the pale sky beneath a line of autumn trees. The scale turns an intimate collection into something architectural, yet the individual objects still invite a closer look. No other decoration competes with the hanging work.
