Giant copper leaves form a cascading rain garden on branching steel supports beside a wet slate path and silver birch trees.

Rain gathers in the giant copper leaves

Published · Updated

Giant copper leaves gather rain above a narrow garden path. Their shallow surfaces tilt in a descending sequence, sending clear streams toward the next bowl below. The nearest leaf fills the foreground with ripples, a raised central seam and a tapered pouring tip. Dark branching supports lift the larger forms above the surrounding plants.

Rows of rivets follow the edges of the riveted bowls. Green oxidation and uneven brown patches interrupt the warm metal, making the surfaces feel exposed to real weather. Each support has a substantial trunk and a clear connection to the bowl it carries. Water finally reaches the lower planting and a small ground-level pool beside the slate paving.

Silver birch trunks rise behind the rain garden, their pale bark contrasting with a dark timber boundary. Grasses and broad leaves soften the mechanical sequence of stems and basins. The wet path reflects the gray sky in broken patches, while fine falling rain is visible against the darker surfaces. The low viewpoint makes the unusual scale immediate without hiding how the installation is held together.
