Rain rings spread across the rice terraces
Published · Updated
Rain rings spread across the nearest flooded basin, overlapping around small shoots that rise above the water. The surface is shallow enough for patches of brown soil to remain visible near the edge. Rough mud berms curve around it, with damp grass and low plants clinging to their sides. These close details establish the weather before the view opens across the hillside.
Rice terraces descend through the middle distance in uneven silver bands. Their contours follow the slope, widening and narrowing around wooded folds in the land. Some basins reflect the pale sky, while others sit beneath darker cloud shadow. Trees along the left side give the nearest fields a defined boundary.
A break in the cloud sends light onto a small section of the distant terraces. Thin mist rests between the layered hills, softening their outlines without hiding the terrain. The photograph moves from individual drops in the foreground to the wider pattern of water and earth below. Its cool colors and changing light make the passing shower part of the landscape's structure.
