Slicing a rainbow soap loaf into bars

Published · Updated

A rainbow soap loaf reveals its coloured layers with each new slice. Red and orange form the base, followed by yellow, green and turquoise, with clear aqua chips scattered along the top. The maker's gloved hands hold the cutting guide and handle as the straight blade creates another even rectangular bar.

Side light passes through the translucent material, making the bands glow against the darker work surface. Finished bars stand nearby so their clean cross sections can be compared with the longer loaf. Small shavings and simple equipment keep the scene focused on the process, while the close view shows the contrast between the smooth layered body and its irregular crystalline topping.
