River potholes hold the canyon light
Published · Updated
River potholes hold a sequence of canyon pools above a narrow green river. Each rounded basin sits at a different level, with water spilling through worn notches between the rock rims. The nearest pool opens across the foreground, its transparent water revealing rounded pebbles beneath a shifting pattern of reflected light.
Orange, gray and brown bands run through the layered bedrock. Some surfaces are smooth where the water passes, while higher ledges remain rough and broken. The small cascades gather white foam at their feet before the current settles again. Dark wet edges trace the changing waterline around the broad circular openings.
Beyond the pools, the river turns between tall canyon walls. Sun reaches the left side and a strip of golden vegetation high above, leaving cooler shadow along the opposite bank. Small plants cling to cracks in the stone. This mixture of near detail and distant depth gives the scene a strong sense of scale, with the connected circles guiding the eye naturally toward the quieter channel.
