Round barn rafters gather the autumn light
Published · Updated
The round barn rafters spread toward a windowed cupola, making the radial timber roof visible across almost the entire upper frame. Heavy posts and curved supporting beams divide the space below without hiding the repeating lines overhead. Individual boards, joints and braces remain distinct in the warm light, giving the large structure a sense of weight and practical construction. Small windows follow the outer wall, where a long curved bench echoes the circular plan. A few hay bales sit to one side of the otherwise open room.
An autumn doorway draws the eye through the barn toward orange trees and a pale strip of grass outside. Its bright rectangle is balanced by darker worn floorboards close to the camera. Sunlight falls in separate patches across the floor, revealing grain, seams and the softened surface of old timber. The view is slightly off center, so the posts overlap at different distances and the curve of the building stays clear. With no people or animals inside, the photograph gives its attention to the roof's geometry, the broad usable floor and the warm seasonal landscape beyond the doors.
